By the power of editing may bad things become great! These images show the before and after shots of an old truck, I got at Bannack. The 3 before shots are the unbracketed images that I then pieced together (bracketed) with the help of my professor and her Aurora Photo editing software. Then we opened up the new bracketed image into photoshop and went to town with the edits. From color, sharpening, and textures and even adding in a vinette, we were able to make this somewhat okay picture and get it ready for its big print debate. Thanks go to MckennaPro and their company to allow me to print this picture.

Photobook time! A collection of all of the best pictures I have taken over the course of the semester. These images come from all my previous blog posts over the last few months, so they may seem familiar to some.

The purpose of this book is to compile all my images from the different methods of photography. It was a struggle to find the layout that fit me and my style, but the end result was worth it. I am grateful for everything I have learned this semester, and it is always nice to have something to show for it at the end.

The only way to truly show off ones work is by winning an award right? No, but it definitely is a good way of doing it. I decided to browse some online competitions for photos, and on viewbug.com there were a couple good options. Now I am not saying that my photos are the best, nor are they capable of winning contests. Yet, by putting my work out there I am giving myself a chance. The process was quite simple, all I needed to do was to go onto the free contest page, and browse the different choices and themes. I chose the best picture contest along with the rule of thirds and added these two examples from my collection. I don’t care if I win. Honestly i would be shocked if I did, but at least I took a chance and put out a photo or two for others to see. Maybe I won’t take home a prize, but maybe someone else will be inspired by my work, and to me, that is what I call a victory.

Here is the page I used: https://www.viewbug.com/photo-contests/free

I submitted these on Friday, November 8th 2019.

Throughout the semester I have been taking hundreds of photos. I have been learning so much about photography, and I am glad that I have somethings to show for it. These 5 images are what I consider the best of the best, meaning that of the many pictures I have taken, these are the ones are my personal favorite, whether it is from the subject, the style, or even the angle. I have gone to having absolutely no skills to having gained skills that will help me be a future photographer. To some these images may not be up to par for their standards, but for me, I just love how these have turned out.

Macro Shooting is super rad. You can take a regular small object, and by getting way up close via a at least 75mm lens brings something small and insignificant to a whole new light. To take these pictures, I set my camera up using my 75-300mm zoom lens, and by staying around the 75-78 range, and using my manual focus was able to capture these bad boys. Our classroom setup was full of small objects, and with a couple drops of water captured water on fruit, flowers, and other things as well. These 4 that I am showing are 2 examples of water droplets, and 2 of just the coolest features of macro shooting. It was a lot of fun to take these photos, and yet again looking at something in a whole new way can really broaden our perspective.

The time has come that the Bannack series posts to finalize and come to an end. These pictures were so much fun to take, and I am sad that the end has come. The previous photographs I have taken have, for the most part, been scripted, meaning that the stations were set up or we had more detailed instructions as to what pictures. For the Fine Art series, we were simply instructed to take pictures that were not used for any other of our posts that are good, well done photos. I wanted to try and show how beauty can be found in even the simplest of things, and I hope that these examples do just that.  Whenever I had free time I spent it taking these pictures of everything else. A bridge, a cemetery, an old skull, and a personal favorite, the old piano. The objects are simple, but under the perspective of art, they are quite fine.

Continuing on with the magic of Bannack, we were lucky enough to have some models who volunteered their time to come and let us take pictures of them for hours on end. There were multiple different stations with different models, lighting, scenery, and so on, and here are some of the best ones I captured. Some of these would have been okay, but with the added help of outside light from flash, reflectors and artificial light these photos turned out phenomenal. I’ll be sure to mention what type of light was used so that others can learn of these techniques. Enjoy!

Once again the magic of Bannack desires to be shown to the world, and who am I to disagree? For these photos, I was able to get my creative freak on and look at some regular objects in a new light. From making a regular man levitate in the non-existing wind to a advertisement for my headphones. These photos show not only the magic of photography, but what you can do with some simple camera modes and some post editing. Here I show a levitation shot, a ghost playing the piano, a commercial shot, an abstract view of the boardwalk, and to top it off the story of an old saloon poker game. I had a lot of fun with these photos, and am also very happy for the new pictures I will get to take.

Back in the day during the old west, transportation was very different. Rather than the sports cars and planes we see today, they got around on wagons, carts, really old cars, and by rail. Bannack Ghost town in Montana showcases these “ancient artifacts” and I chose them as a way to show a series of images that share a common theme. The old transportation was so cool to look at and admire, and to also truly wonder how they managed taking so long to get to where they want to go.

For my process with this project, I took a trip up to the mountains I Spencer Idaho while my family was camping. One evening as the sun was going down, I wanted to capture the mountains at dusk, so after a short drive on my families ranger, I found a beautiful spot secluded from the muddy road with some untouched gods country. The mountains are my common factor for this project, and so included all sorts of different things we see while up in elevation. From the trees, the stumps, deer tracks and just the plain beauty of the earth, these photos show the landscape in different ways, both up close and from afar. For the last photo of the snow close up, I took a photo of ice and blended it with the snow on top of the stump to give the nice ice texture. A sample of that texture is inlcuded at the bottom.

Here is another really cool landscape shot I took at Mesa Falls
